Song 3 – Rings and Fences
April 30th, 2008Not the song I thought I would be posting up next, but I got so carried away with jamming it this week, next thing I knew I was finished! This song is simple, unashamed, ukulele pop. I’ve got to rinse it out somehow! Admittedly, there’s some pretty sloppy instrument playing in parts, but I think it adds to the charm! Instruments used: cheap toy ukulele, slightly out of tune melodica, plastic shaker, glockenspiel, tamborrine & voice.
Sadly I have nae time to post at length about this one as I am packing my bags in a rush for my 10 day drawing/camping trip down the east coast of England (+ a bit of Scotland) starting tomorrow!

ps. Can’t believe I forgot to tell you all in my last post….. at the Nizlopi gig in Aberdeen I played two weekends ago Luke (lead singer) asked me to come up onstage and sing improv over one of their songs… and fresh from one pint of (purely medicinal) guinness I was like wahey yeeah and went to run and jump up onstage but only went and fell flat on my face in front of the audience. My consequent 3rd knee cap and 2 foot bruise on my thigh have still not gone away. SO embarrassing, I wanted to die!

Donna, what can I say? This song is not good… IT’S GREAT, I love it, it’s catchy, it has something that I A-DO-RE , the ukelele thing. And as Jem says, it’s like a summer song, perfect for a summer afternoon after coming back from the beach.
So, señorita Maciocia, 5 stars out 5 for you. Amazing. I loved it.
PS: I’m writing the chapter 2 of my book. Woo Hoo.

Possibly my favorite of the songs you’ve posted so far. Such happy-fun, warm weather goodness.
I love the instrumentation – so unexpected and fresh – thus, such a treat.

I read the lyrics before listening to the song and found them thoughtful and reflective and a little bit sad.
I thought, how could such lyrics become “ukulele pop”?
Then I listened to the song and suddenly the words took on a whole new feeling.. going from sad to hopeful.
And I agree, it’s a great little summer song… perfect for singin round the campfire.
Loved the pictures too. Is that a keyboard bong you’re suckin on? lol

I saw her at Glasto, but that was different as i was under the influence hehe, amazing AMAZING woman! I danced my proverbial tits off , i was at the front center and got covered in glitter and lazers and all sorts! What an inspiration.
Great new tuneage! I’ve been listening to it all day rather than doing boring uni work, i need to learn ukulele…
